The industry and economy of Hungary are entering a new era of digitalisation which is often called the fourth industrial revolution, or Industry 4.0. To prepare the economy for the digital transition and revolution, as well as for the rapid changes following from the complete integration of industry and informatics, a new development program is being planned by the Hungarian government. The most important and frequently used key words of the transition and its progress are: innovation, research and development, interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity. At a time of larger technological changes and industrial revolutions, universal and theoretically well-founded knowledge comes more to the fore, and the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge has a higher value. The more these values are represented by the educational and research profiles of a faculty, the greater its potential possibilities are.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics of the University of Miskolc has come a long way since its foundation in 1949. Due to the challenges of the last seven decades or so, the Faculty has gone through internal development, the result of which is a modern engineering faculty of multidisciplinary nature. It involves, merges and integrates the disciplines of mechanical engineering, informatics and electrical engineering, both in its teaching and in its research, and is able to meet the current challenges of industrial modernisation as well.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics has always given the best answers to the challenges of times. It mostly depends on us whether, by uniting the inner and outer forces that influence the future of the faculty, we can continue to navigate the ship of the largest faculty of the University of Miskolc in the right direction.
